General health

1. In the package insert I read that I should take notice of the vitamin and mineral content in the ordinary feed when I decide on the dose of Multidog.

If your dog eats high-quality processed food, additional vitamins are normally not needed. Multidog covers half of a dog's daily need of vitamins and minerals. You can also discuss the matter (the need of extra vitamins) with your vet .

2. When do you recommend extra vitamins to my pet?

If your dog/cat has been ill and not had appetite enough it may need extra vitamins. You may also discuss vitamin- and mineral supplement during pregnancy and lactation with your veterinarian.

3. Do you recommend administration of your Multidog/cat if the animal is fed  commercial feed?

If you feed super-premium commercial food (high quality is important), there is no need for additional vitamins and minerals, but if you combine the commercial feed with left overs you should add extra vitamins and minerals.

4. What is the difference between Multidog/Multidog Vita?

Multidog vita has a higher content of vitamins as the older dogs uptake from the intestine is lower than the young dogs.  There is no added calcium or phosphor in Multidog vita as the need in older  dogs is much less than in growing animals. If you need to supply extra CA/P you can always combine Multidog Vita with Calphosum D.

5. Why is there no Calcium or Phosphorus in Multidog Vita?

The need of those minerals in older dogs do vary and is normally much less than for growing animals and therefore we recommend an individual complementation of Calphosum D as per needed.

6. My dog ate a whole bottle of Multidog what shall I do?

Contact your vet!

7. I give my cat Multicat daily even though I feed him/her a commercial feed. can this be harmfull for my cat?

Normally this should not cause any problems, but it depends on what feed you buy. Opened packages of i.e. dry food often loose some of its vitamin content.  We normally do not recommend extra vitamins if your cat is healthy and eat only commercial feed of high quality. The Multicat dose is supposed to give your cat half of the need of vitamins daily.

8. What is Taurine and what good does it do to my cat?

Taurine is an essential amino acid that the cat needs to get through the food.  If the cat does not get taurine it may result in blindness and heart problems. It is also important for reproduction and growth of kittens.

9. My cat has eaten approximately 20 tablets from the Multicat jar, what should I do?

You need to contact a vet.

10. When is the best time to administer the vitamins? During a meal or as treats between meals?

You can give the dog the vitamins mixed into its food or as treats, whichever is easiest for you. If you want to mix the dosage into its food, mix it into a prepared portion of food.

Digestion

1. How long can I keep a bottle with Nutrisal?

We recommend that you change it at least daily in order to provide you animal with fresh drinking water.

2. What is the mode of action of Attapekt?

In Attapekt there is a clay named attapulgit and this clay absorbs the enterotoxins from pathogenic bacteria in the gut. The ingredient pectin defends the gut wall from adhering bacteria.

3. Is Attapekt similar to medical charcoal?

Yes - both have an antitoxic effect against the enterotoxins produced by pathogens.

4. Are the bacteria in Aptobalance freeze dried?

CYLACTIN production process is definitely not freeze-dried. The probiotic strain is kept alive but inactivated in the microencapsulated product. (Ref: Satu Yrjänen, Hiven)

5. Can you give Aptobalance to a Nymph parachit, rabbit or other smaller animals?

Aptobalance is recommended for cats and dogs and we have no experience of using the product in smaller companion animals or exotic pets.

6. I have changed my dog’s food and now it has diarrhoea. How long must I use Attapectin before I can expect it to work?

Often, the first dosage is effective but treatment should be continued for at least 2 to 3 days.

7. I have two dogs, one of which is very active while the other is quite old. After a run, I put Nutrisal in the younger dog’s water dish. Is it harmful for the older dog if it also drinks Nutrisal?

No.

Skin and fur

1. What is the difference between Biorion and Eforion?

Biorion does not contain any PUFA. It contains Biotin, a vitamin involved in several important processes in the body. Biorion is a feed supplement for healthy dogs and cats with bad quality of fur and nails. Biotin is often recommended for women with brittle nails and horses with low brittle hoofs.
Eforion (oil and capsules) contains especially PUFA and vitamin E (capsules also zinc and biotin). PUFA are used to treat and prevent recidives of all kind of allergies (i.e. food, flea allergy), which are clinically manifested by pruritus, scratching, seborrhoea, etc.

2. When do you recommend Eforion and when Biorion?

Biorion is often recommended for animals with brittle claws and alopecia. Eforion is usually recommended to use in dogs for better fur quality and in atopic (allergic) dogs to reduce the need for corticosteroids.

3. Is it just the quality of the fur or also the speed of growth that is affected by the use of Eforion?

If your dog has lost the fur in a certain area it will for sure benefit from essential fatty acids and new fur will grow out faster and better if you add Eforion to the diet.

4. How does biotin have an impact on the growth of claws?

Biotion is important for the metabolism of the aminoacids in keratin therefore biotin helps strengthen the claw and the growth of the claw. (Ref Dr. Baddaky)

5. How long time does it take before I can expect results of adding Eforion in the diet to my pet?

This depends of course of the quality of the fur when you begin using Eforion. If your aim is to get a good fur better and extra shiny this may take around 3 - 4 weeks. If you are using Eforion on recommendations from your vet due to some underlying disease the effect may show after 2 - 3 months.

6. When can I expect to see results on the claws when I use Biorion?

The growth of claws is set be approximately around 1 - 2 mm /week. You should expect to supply your dog with Biorion for 3 - 6 months before the results are visible. (Ref Dr. Baddaky)

7. What is the main reason giving my dog/cat problems with the claws?

Problems with claws often has a multifactorial background. Factors as humid environment, hard surfaces at exercise, frequent licking or biting of the paws contribute to defects. Any damage of the claws gives bacteria an opportunity to grow and disturb the growth of the claw.

8. Why is Omega-3 fatty acids recommended?

Omega-3 fatty acids reduce inflammation in the skin and also helps the skin produce new cells to improve the skin and fur quality.

9. Which is the optimal relation between omega-6 and omega-3 fatty acids in a skin-and fur product?

There is no absolute evidence for the optimal ratio between or dose of the omega 6/ omega 3  fatty acids.  Many studies have been published  describing the benefit of EFA in atopic dogs and often a product with the ratio between 5:1 and 10:1 has been used. This is still not evidence enough for stating the optimal ratio according to key opinion leaders in dermatology.

10. What signs do I see if my pet does not get enough of essential fatty acids in the feed?

Lack of essential fatty acids may show as a dry, dull fur, alopecia and this is a risk for secondary bacterial infections with itching and dermatitis. (Ref: Codner & Thatcher, 1990;Codner &Thatcher, 1993.)

11. How long will it take before the effects of Eforion begin to show? Biorion did not help my dog at all.

These are long-term treatments. Eforion oil needs to be administered for at least 8 weeks before any results become visible. In some cases, the results may be visible sooner.

12. Administering a dose of Eforion – counting drops – is quite difficult. Can you offer any advice on how to make this easier?

You can count the drops onto a spoon the first time, and then check the total quantity on the spoon. After this, you can use the spoon as a measure to make measuring out the dose easier.

1. Can I feed Bucadog to my cat?

Yes you can. Bucadog for dogs differs from Bucacat paste for cats only in terms of its flavourings and package size. Bucadog tastes mildly of liver and Bucacat tastes of fish. If your cat likes the taste of liver, you can safely feed Bucadog to it. The dosage is the same as for Bucacat, approximately 2 cm of paste in the cat’s mouth.
